Microwave Avial for onam festival

Microwave Avial for onam festival is a quick and delicious method of preparing Avial for the Onam feast


  • Drumstick (1, logn cut)
  • Carrot (1/2 cup, long cut)
  • Beans (1/2 cup, long cut)
  • Plantain/raw banana (1/2 cup, long cut)
  • Curry leaves(1 twig)
  • Freshly grated coconut(1 cup)
  • Garlic (1 tsp, chopped)
  • Onion(1 small size, cut)
  • Cumin seeds (1 tsp)
  • Turmeric powder (1/4 tsp)
  • Salt as per taste
  • Water
  • Yogurt (3 tbsp)


  1. In a microwave safe bowl, add drumstick, carrot, beans, plantain, water (1 cup), turmeric powder, salt and mix well.
  2. Cover it and microwave on high power for 8 minutes or till the drumstick cooks. Stir once after 4 minutes.
  3. In a mixer blender, add cumin seeds, garlic, curry leaves, grated coconut, water(1/2 cup) and blend it well to make a coarse paste.
  4. Add this coconut paste in the cooked vegetable and mix well.
  5. Microwave it uncovered for 1 minute so that excess water is evaporated and we get a semi-dry Avial.
  6. In a bowl, add yogurt and whisk well.
  7. Add this whisked yogurt into the Avial and mix well. Check for salt at this time and adjust it as per your taste.

  • Ingredients:
  • Roasted peanuts(1 cup)
  • Bengal gram flour(4 tbsp)
  • Chilli powder (1/4 tsp)
  • Fennel powder(roasted, 1 tsp)
  • Salt as per taste
  • Asafoetida powder(a pinch)
  • water (3 tbsp)


  1. In a mixing bowl, add bengal gram flour, chilli powder, roasted fennel seeds powder, salt as per taste, asoafoetida powder. Mix all the dry ingredients well.
  2. Add little by little water and mix well simultaneously to get the consistency to coat with the peanut. .
  3. Add the roasted peanuts into the batter and mix well so that the masalas coat all over it.
  4. In a microwave safe dish, add the masala coated peanut and spread evenly. Microwave it on high power for 5 minutes.
  5. Take it out of the microwave and mix it once. If the peanuts stick to one another, turn the entire set over.
  6. Cook it in microwave on high power for 5 minutes.
  7. Allow the masala peanut to cool or it comes to room temperature.
  8. Seperate the peanuts from one another by breaking them individually. Do not hesitate to pop couple of them into your mouth..:)

Crispy masala peanut is now ready to be served with a cup of tea. Enjoy!

Peanuts (2 cups)


  1. Take a nonstick microwave safe dish. To it add the raw peanuts and spread it.
  2. Microwave it for 4 minutes on high powder.Take it out and mix well.
  3. Microwave it for another 4 minutes on high powder.
  4. Once it cools down, peal off the skin of the peanuts. It will come out very easily. For this, rub the peanuts in between your palms.

Nutty roasted peanuts are ready to be served or can be used to make masala peanut.

Salt (1/2 tsp)
Dried corn (2 tbsp)

In a microwave safe dish, add oil, salt and dried corn.
Mix it well and close it with a microwave safe lid and microwave it for 5 minutes on high power.
The popcorn will pop up. The remaing ones which has not popped, keep it back in the microwave and microwave it for 5 minutes on high power.
The one that is ready and popped, take it out in a bowl.
Sprinkle some salt over it and enjoy it with your favorite movie or match 🙂

  • Whole wheat flour (1/2 cup)
  • Bengal gram flour (1/2 cup
  • Salt (1/2 tsp)
  • Turmeric powder (1/4 tsp)
  • Cumin seeds (1/2 tsp)
  • Asafoetida powder(1/4 tsp)
  • Butter (1 tbsp)
  • Water to make a soft dough


  • In a mixing bowl, add whole wheat flour, bengal gram flour, salt, turmeric cumin seeds,
    asaofetida powder, butter and mix well.
  • Add little by little water to make a soft dough.
  • On a wooden surface, dust some whole wheat flour, and coat the dough.Flatten it with a rolling pin.
  • Use your or your kid’s favourite cookie cutter shape to shape it into different size. If you do
    not have a cookie cutter, you can use a small lid of a tin to give a round shape.
  • Place the shape on a greased baking tray.Bake it at 180 Degree Celcius in a pre heated
    oven for 10 minutes.
  • Remove it from the oven and bring it to room temperature.

Microwave chicken biriyani

Microwave chicken biriyani very quick and easy to make chicken biriyani in very less time using a microwave


Ingredients: (for 1 portion)

  • Long grain rice or Basmati rice (1/2 cup)
  • Dried red chilly(1, de-seeded)
  • Onion (1, chopped)
  • Garlic (2 cloves)
  • Cumin seeds (1/2 tsp)
  • Fennel seeds (1 tsp)
  • Cinnamon stick (1/2 inch)
  • Green cardamom (2 along with the skin)
  • Cloves(2)
  • Pepper corn(4)
  • Salt(1 tsp)
  • Water(1 tbsp)
  • Oil(1 & 1/2 tbsp)
  • Turmeric powder(1/2 tsp)


  1. Soak the rice in water for half an hour and keep it aside.
  2. For the spice paste, in a mixer jar, add the dried red chilly, onion, garlic, cumin seeds, fennel seeds, cinnamon stick, green cardamom, cloves, peppercorn, salt(1/2 tsp), water and oil. Grind it to make a smooth paste.
  3. In a microwave safe bowl, add the chicken and the spice paste and mix it well.
  4. Cover it with a lid and microwave it for 3 minutes on high power.
  5. Remove the lid and add the turmeric powder and salt(1/2 tsp)
  6. Add the soaked rice along with the water and mix well.
  7. Cover it with a lid and microwave on high powder for 13 minutes.

Once done, separate it with a fork and serve hot. Enjoy!
